Violetta Todorova (violin)

An emerging voice of her generation, Violetta Todorova has performed as a soloist with orchestras and ensembles throughout the US, Russia, Finland, and Sweden. She holds prizes from several violin competitions, including the International Competition for Young Violinists in Estonia and the All-Russian Competition for Young Violinists in Nizhny-Novgorod, Russia. In the spring of 2016, Ms. Todorova was named the Concertmaster of Fort Wayne Philharmonic in Fort Wayne, IN. She has also held the Concertmaster position with the Illinois Symphony, has been an Assistant Concertmaster with the Northwest Indiana Symphony, and a part of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Todorova received the 2019 Arts United EMERGING ARTIST Award.

Originally from Saint Petersburg, Russia, Violetta Todorova started playing violin at the age of five. By the time she was eleven, Todorova had performed in most major concert halls of St. Petersburg, including an engagement as soloist performing Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons at the S.K.K Arena. When she was twelve, Ms. Todorova was invited to the prestigious Interlochen Summer Arts Festival in Michigan, attending for six summers on full scholarship where she won the concerto competition in both the Intermediate and High School divisions. During those summers, she was also the concertmaster of the Intermediate Symphony Orchestra and the World Youth Symphony Orchestra.

After her studies at the St. Petersburg Conservatory Preparatory School, Ms. Todorova attended Interlochen Arts Academy and DePaul University School of Music in Chicago, where she earned her Bachelor (summa cum laude) and Master (with distinction) Degrees in violin performance, studying with one of the world’s top concert violinists and pedagogues, Ilya Kaler. During her studies at DePaul, Ms. Todorova also served as an assistant concertmaster of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.

Ms. Todorova has also been a guest concertmaster with the Chicago Arts Orchestra, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Iowa, South Shore Orchestra, and Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra.

In 2013 Todorova co-founded 42nd Parallel, a self-conducted orchestra in Chicago. Passionate about bringing classical music to new audiences, members of the ensemble offered performances in a variety of nontraditional venues, including black box theaters and churches.

Ms. Todorova has also performed alongside some of the most famous and internationally renowned musicians in the world, including Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Midori, and Sarah Chang. Her musical collaboration with the owner of House Harp in Michigan was featured in the New York Times magazine and she has appeared in the role of a violinist in the pilot episode of the television series “Boss”,  directed by Gus Van Sant.

“Her sound is wonderful,” Webdell said of Todorova. “She is one of the most musical violinists that I ever heard.”
