Nanao YamadaNanao Yamada

Nanao Yamada, born in Oregon and raised in Osaka Japan, first started playing the violin at the age of 8. She received her Bachelor’s from the Eastman School of Music under Oleh Krysa, and recently finished her Master’s at the Northwestern University Bienen School of Music under Gerardo Ribeiro, where she continues her studies for Doctorate in Music Degree.

During her time at Eastman, she was concertmaster of both the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra and the Eastman Philharmonia. In summer 2017, she was a member of the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra, founded by Leonard Bernstein, and performed in many orchestra and chamber concerts all over Japan. Last summer, she was at the Meadowmount School of Music as a fellow and an assistant to Mr. Ribeiro. An avid chamber musician, Nanao has performed in many master classes including ones held by the Emerson Quartet, Takács Quartet, Juilliard Quartet, Jerusalem Quartet, and Jasper Quartet. She is currently in the Dover Quartet Residency Program at Northwestern University.

Nanao has won and placed in numerous solo competitions in Oregon, with her debut at 14 years old with the Oregon Symphony. Nanao enjoys teaching her students at Bienen as well as teaching English to Japanese students as an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) in Japan.

Ms Yamada is the recipient of the 2019 Judith Haskell Brewer Fund of the Community Foundation for a greater Richmond. At Meadowmount, she is a student of Gerardo Ribeiro and his teaching assistant.

Yxing Guo

Yxing Guo, 12, a homeschooled student, is currently studying with Ignace Jang. She had been studying violin with Dr. Nicole Ebisu since age 3, and also studied with Mr. Ivan Ženatý at the Meadowmount School of Music for the past three summers.

Yxing has been a top prizewinner of the HMTA State Competition for five years, including four 1st prizes, and has won the MTNA Hawaii state round. She was also the 1st place winner of the Osaka Competition Semifinals in 2018. Yxing is currently the Concertmaster of the Hawaii Youth Symphony’s Concert Orchestra. She recently participated in masterclasses with Sarah Chang, Eric Silberger and Joseph Swensen. In 2015, she and her sister Yling, were selected to perform the Bach Concerto for Two Violins with the Honolulu Festival Orchestra. Yxing was also the winner of the 2017 Maui Chamber Orchestra Youth Concerto Competition and performed with the Maui Chamber Orchestra.

Additionally, she performs with other students at retirement centers and other community events. Shealso has been playing piano since age 5. In her free time, she enjoys playing soccer, surfing, and baking.

At Meadowmount, Yxing is a student of Ivan Ženatý.
